Lil Wayne’s Cash Money and Young Money family Birdman and Nicki Minaj are rushing to his defense in the controversial conversation of Kendrick Lamar being tapped as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, Louisiana — Weezy’s birthplace and legendary stomping grounds.

As we previously shared, on Sunday (September 8), JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL announced Kendrick Lamar as the headliner of Super Bowl LIX, which is currently scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome and set to air on Fox.

Speaking on the amazing feat, Lamar said, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.” Lamar continued, “What’s the deal, everybody? My name’s Kendrick Lamar, and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl 59. Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship, no round twos… I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans, February 9, 2025. Wear your best dress too, even if you’re watching from home.”

Commenting on Kendrick Lamar being chosen to headline the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Roc Nation founder JAY-Z said, “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Despite the praises from HOV, handfuls of social users criticized the decision, including Lil Wayne’s longtime engineer and co-manager, Fabian Marasciullo — who stated he was, “Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired.” He added, “Will never again be in a position or have the [goat emoji] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else’s decision. We will make the decisions.”

Others to notably speak out was Punch, the founder of Kendrick Lamar’s former label TDE, who tweeted at Lil Wayne’s manager Mack Maine. Plus, rapper Pusha T, another NOLA native and rap legend Master P, and most recently, New York rappers Cam’Ron and MA$E, and Baton Rouge, LA native and rap legend, Boosie Badazz. Lil Wayne’s daughter Reginae Carter also spoke out.

Now, Lil Wayne’s mentor and Cash Money label founder Birdman and Wayne’s Young Money artist Nicki Minaj are coming to his defense. Taking to X (formerly Twitter, Birdman wrote, “Smfh. These n***az P***i. @NickiMinaj @Drake @LilTunechi YMCMB. I’m[ma] make these n***az respell us, on Gladys. Hatin’ sh*t 4real.”

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj fired off a slew of tweets in defense of Lil Wayne. One tweet began, “I love watching the whole industry play dumb time after time. lol. The truth is the truth no matter who tells it. Picking & choosing who y’all accept truth from then BAM! Pow! * might tell you a joke but won’t tell you a lie. Bwahahahaaha.”

She continued, “One n***a took a knee. The other n***a took the bag. He gon’ get you ’n***ers’ in line every fkng time. Got everything in the world. Still spiteful and evil. Disgusting. Be happy, Abeg. Go be fang happy n***a!!!!! In rap business. In women business. When you go the Politicians and the police you good tho. Plus, dat ugly laughy taffy alien. After defending Lil Wayne and dragging those in charge of naming Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar as the headliner of the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in Weezy’s hometown, Nicki Minaj ended up claiming that we can all “love and respect Kendrick and still love and respect Wayne.”

She tweeted, “You can love & respect Kendrick and still love & respect Wayne. Even Kendrick loves & respects Wayne. Every real rapper loves & respects Wayne.”

When a fan asked if Republic called her to change up her narrative, she replied, “LOLLLLL they did? Today? If they did call me I def didn’t get the call chi. Maybe they left a vm.
