As we previously shared, on Tuesday (June 9), a White judge read the verdict after an all-White jury deliberated for a little over 2 hours.

The jury convicted the Black teen of first-degree murder, leaving him in tears in a Texas courtroom. Hours later, a judge sentenced Anthony — who was 17 at the time of the incident and is now 19 — to 35 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole in half that time, 17.5 years. Anthony was previously facing a sentence ranging from 5 to 99 years or life in prison.

Hours after the verdict, Azealia Banks initially commented on case. While responding to a social user on X, Banks wrote, “He is guilty. He’s completely guilty.” Banks continued to go off when another user countered and said murder was excessive. The user argued that officials should have charged and convicted Anthony with manslaughter.

Azealia Banks Claims Karmelo Anthony Can’t Claim Self-Defense In Austin Metcalf Murder

She fired back and claimed Anthony did not act in self-defense, claiming he “taunted someone, saying, ‘Touch me and see what happens’ 5 times.” The rapper continued to claim that Anthony “had intent on stabbing Austin,” arguing because he brought a weapon to a school sports event. Banks insisted, “The kid is f***ing guilty.” And when it comes to race, she said, “This is not what the Black community needs to be focused on we have more important things to do.”

“It’s not self-defense when you taunt someone, saying, ‘Touch me and see what happens,’ 5 times. He [had] intent on stabbing Austin, Plus – you’re not allowed to bring weapons onto school property or have them at school events. The kid is f***ing guilty. I have to think, how would I feel if Austin were Black? I’d definitely find him extra guilty. What would have been a routine fight between boys at a school ended up with one dead. This is not what the Black community needs to be focused on we have more important things to do.”

Azealia Banks Insists Karmelo Anthony Did Not Act In Self-Defense In Fatal Stabbing Of Austin Metcalf

Azealia Banks continued replying to comments into the early morning hours of Wednesday (June 10). While responding to the argument that “touch me and see what happens is a warning, not an invitation,” Banks declared, “It’s an invitation.” She said Anthony should no have had a weapon a school period and should have gone to a parent, teacher, or supervisor if he were “really in danger.”

“Its an invitation, if he were really in danger, he would have left the tent and called a teacher or supervisor for help. Call your parents or the police. Again, kids should not be bringing weapons to school. Finding him not guilty sets a precedent other boys will certainly follow. No weapons in school. Period. Its that simple.”

She added:

“How would you feel if some knucklehead bought a weapon to school and stabbed a young black girl for telling him to move away from her lunchtable? Kids are mean, as we know.. They have all kinds of childish reasons for saying ‘you cant sit here.’ None of them warrant getting stabbed to death. These are two teens who did not know each other before the incident. Austin told him to move, Karmelo was presumably embarassed and took it to an extreme. By hiding the knife in the bag and daring Austin to engage, it shows INTENT TO MURDER. He didnt pull the knife OUT and say touch me and see what happens… The element of luring Austin makes it a complete and total act of intentional murder. Literally has zero to do with race, I would feel the same if Karmelo were white.”
