Four Aurora PD officers are no longer working after mocking the death of Elijah McClain in a cellphone photo. The photo took place at the site where McClain was violently arrested and died.

The immediate termination of the officers was announced earlier today by Chief Vanessa Wilson during a press conference. Wilson said Erica Marrero and Kyle Dittrich were fired after the third officer in the photo, Jaron Jones, resigned earlier this week. The fourth officer, Jason Rosenblatt, was fired after replying “haha” to a text message attached to the photo. The photo was taken in October 2019, two months after Elijah McClain was put into a deadly chokehold and lost consciousness. Before his death, EMTs gave him a strong sedative that caused him to go into cardiac arrest.
He suffered two heart attacks en route to the hospital and died days later after going into a vegetative state.

Allegedly, the photos were sent to Rosenblatt to make him “feel better.” The Aurora Police Association Union has criticized Chief Wilson’s decision to fire the officers, stating that it happened “too quickly.”
