On Monday (June 19), RapHouseTV uploaded audio to their various social media pages, reporting that R. Kelly, full name Robert Kelly, recently expressed concerns from behind bars in a Chicago prison. Currently, Kelly is serving a 30-year prison sentence in his hometown after being found guilty of sex trafficking.

On the audio clip obtained by the rap news outlet, Kelly claimed that animals receive better treatment than he has been afforded while sitting inside of Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. He claimed that he is in fear of losing his life due to alleged negligence on behalf of the facility’s medical staff. He alleged that they botched a procedure where he was having the blood clots in his legs treated.

Kelly insisted that he doesn’t “deserve to die” by these means, and that “somebody miscommunicated or somebody took a guess” at what was really happening with his legs.

He wholly said, “If I spend the rest of my life in prison, I want to die from natural causes. And I deserve that. I don’t deserve to die because somebody miscommunicated or somebody took a guess at what’s going on with my leg. I’m not supposed to die that way. You’re not even supposed to take a chance on that.”

Kelly added, “‘Cause if it was your child, or if it was your father, or if it was your mother, somebody you loved, you would’ve said, ‘Go to the doctor. We need to get that checked out. We need to look at that. We need to x-ray that.’ They didn’t even x-ray me. And that’s why I’m speaking out on this, because I’m scared for my life in that area. And who wouldn’t be? Who wouldn’t be? They treat animals better than that.”

Now, this isn’t the first time that Kelly has voiced his issues inside the prison or alleged to be neglected by the medical staff at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. Back in March, his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, blasted the facility and their team for being negligent and lacking care for Kelly and other inmates. Bonjean called it unacceptable.

At the time she told ABC7, “It’s not just because it’s R. Kelly. Every prison deserves medical attention, medical care. The MCC is required to address these things in a competent fashion.”
