Atlanta Women Known As ‘The Boot Girls’ Go Viral For Removing Car Boots For $50, Claim They’re Fighting Against ‘Predatory’ City Booting
Two anonymous women in Atlanta have taken over social media and their local news channel as they fight back against “predatory” city parking enforcement agencies, and private parking entities, booting cars.
The two ladies argue that the practice is predatory and they are simply doing their jobs as caring citizens to free those caught in the traps of their predators.
Speaking with WSB-TV Channel 2, the women, wearing pink and bedazzled masks to hide their identities, spoke about their fast-rise on social media and all the praise and attention they have been receiving for their “good deeds.”

One of the women said, “It expanded out of nowhere.” They both added that they have been receiving calls and messages from hundreds of drivers who are needing their services. They said the requests come in “all day, everyday.”
It is reported that the The Boot Girls will easily come to anyone’s rescue and remove a boot from a car for just $50 flat. However, if the driver needing help cannot afford their flat fee, the women reassure viewers that they can work with that person’s budget.
However, they note that $50 is less than what most parking companies around the city are charging people. It is further reported that a City of Atlanta ordinance permits these parking companies to charge a rate of up of $75 a day for every day a boot is attached to a car’s wheel.

As for how the women began their heroic business, it is said that the idea popped up in their heads when their own car was booted by the city.
After it happened to them, they went online to search for someone to help remove the boot, and they found a place called ATL Boot Key. It is noted that the company sells copies of keys that unlock boots. The women went ahead and purchased a key for less than what the parking company was going to charge them to remove the boot.
It also noted that the owner of ATL Boot Key, Christian Verrette, is also a victim of being booted, and he started his business selling copycat keys after having his vehicle booted about a year ago. He said, “It’s predatory. It is holding someone hostage. You are holding someone for ransom: $75, or you cannot go anywhere.”
Since their own run-in with the city, and gaining the idea to copy a boot key, The Boot Girls have been going out everyday to rescue other folks that have gotten preyed on by parking enforcement.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Police Department has caught wind of The Boot Girls’ actions and warned citizens, “Recently, it has been brought to our attention that many motorists within the city are investing in Boot Keys, which is a key used to unlock the booting device.”
The warning continued:
“While owning a Boot Key is not illegal, here is what the public needs to know: It is not illegal to own a Boot Key. If you use a Boot Key to modify, tamper, or disengage a booting device from a vehicle, you can be charged with:
Criminal Trespass (O.C.G.A. 16-7-21) and/or
Theft of Services (O.C.G.A. 16-8-5) and/or
Theft by Taking (O.C.G.A. 16-8-2) and/or
Damage to Property 2nd Degree (O.C.G.A. 16-7-23).”
