Asap Rocky “Wanted To Be Light-Skinned” When He Was Younger
Rapper A$AP Rocky has been prominent in the news lately due to his budding romance with longtime friend Rihanna, but, now he’s back in the limelight as he made a few interesting confessions on his new song.
On his song Cyberpunk 2077 that came out on Thursday, Rocky speaks on colorism and admits that when he was younger he wished that he had a lighter complexion, per HipHopDX.

“Man when I was younger I wished that I was light-skinned, now wouldn’t trade the world for my skin,” be raps. “I surpassed what you could do inside your lifespan, so just give me a little credit like a white man.”
Rocky speaking on colorism and self-hatred shows growth as he previously received backlash in 2013 for saying that a black woman shouldn’t wear red lipstick and saying that he could not relate to the Black Lives Matter movement back in 2015.
“I did not sign up to be no political activist,” he said to TimeOut. “I wanna talk about my motherfuckin’ lean, my best friend dying, the girls that come in and out of my life, the jiggy fashion that I wear, my new inspirations in drugs!”
