Socialites, Johnny Depp will come face-to-face with his ex-wife Amber Heard today at a Virginia courthouse after filing a $50 million defamation lawsuit against the Aquaman star.

The 58-year-old was furious upon reading Amber’s 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post, where she described herself as a victim of domestic abuse one year after divorcing the actor. However, she never mentioned Johnny by name and has countersued him for a whopping $100 million.

In court documents, Johnny argued that the article written by Amber had heavily implied she was referring to her turbulent relationship with the Pirates of the Caribbean star, whom she was married to for 18 months. He has categorically denied having ever been violent toward her.

In a lengthy statement made on her official Instagram page over the weekend, Amber told fans she’d be taking a much-needed break from social media as she revisits a chapter in her life she hopes to move on from for good once the court case concludes.

“I’m going to go offline for the next several weeks,” she expressed. “As you may know, I’ll be in Virginia where I face my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court.

“Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in the Washington Post, in which I recounted my experience of violence and domestic abuse. I never named him, rather I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power. ”

Amber continued: “I continue to pay that price, but hopefully when this case concludes, I can move on and so can Johnny.”

What’s more, the trial was supposed to include a star-studded witness list from James Franco and Elon Musk, who were both accused of sharing an affair with Amber when she was married to the father-of-two between 2015 and 2017.

But according to the Daily Mail, Elon will “likely be a no-show” after Johnny’s lawyers failed to subpoena the tech mogul on six different occasions to grill him on his relationship with Amber. On the other hand, James is still expected to testify either in person or virtually.

Since their last showdown at the Royal Court Of Justice in London two years ago, Amber and Johnny have had no contact after the Kentucky native filed a libel case against British newspaper The Sun for calling him a “wife-beater.”

Following a three-week trial, a judge ruled in favor of the news firm, saying that the article — written in April 2018 — was “substantially true.” Johnny filed to appeal the court ruling, a move which was rejected in March 2021.
