Alec Baldwin Says “I Didn’t Pull the Trigger” In Fatal Rust Shooting

During his first sit-down interview following the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the Rust movie set, Alec Baldwin says that he did not pull the trigger.

The 63-year-old actor sat down with George Stephanopoulos with ABC News.

When Baldwin was asked if he pulled the trigger that fateful October day, he replied, “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them, never.”

The preview of the clip did not go on to explain who pulled the trigger or what occurred as Baldwin said he had “no idea” how a live bullet was in the gun.

“Someone put a live bullet in a gun,” he said. “A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

“Even now, I find it hard to believe that [the incident occurred],” he added. “It doesn’t seem real to me.”

The explosive interview is the actor’s first since he accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on set.

“It is so raw. I mean, as you can imagine he’s devastated. But he was also very candid, he was very forthcoming, he answered every question. He talked about Halyna Hutchins, talked about meeting with her family as well,” said Stephanopoulos about the interview. “He went through, in detail, what happened on set that day. I have to tell you I was surprised in many places over the course of that hour and 20 minutes that we sat down yesterday.”
