Dang! Now, we all know Afroman loves him some marijuana, but his love for some good ol’ Mary Jane just got him detained over at the Canadian border. Not only did he and his crew get held up for hours, but they also got cited $1,000 all because they were in possession of some cannabis lotion and gummies.
On Tuesday (June 20), the “Because I Got High” rapper from Palmdale, California was detained by U.S. Border Patrol officers as he and his crew tried to get back onto American soil from Canada. They were at a port of entry crossing over the St. Lawrence River in Upstate New York.
While passing through the inspection zone, federal agents claimed to have found loads of cash and some marijuana in Afroman’s vehicle. They claimed that all of the bills found amounted to a total $10,000. But despite the amount of weed found on them being described as an insignificant personal amount, the rapper and his entourage were held up for 5 hours at the Canadianborder.

Speaking with TMZ, Afroman explained that he and his crew were on their way to a gig in New York when they were stopped at the border. He claimed that before making his way over to the show, he had handed out all of his weed to his fans and even some housekeepers at his hotel in Canada, but he forgot that he still had a bottle of cannabis pain lotion in his luggage.
The rapper claimed that when he was stopped by border patrol, they found the lotion, and also found some cannabis gummies that his DJ had in his possession. Agents ended up detaining everyone, keeping them held up at the border for 5 hours. As they were finally being let go, they sent the rapper on his way with a nice little citation for $500 for the cannabis lotion, and also fined his DJ for $500 for the gummies.

Meanwhile, law enforcement sources told the publication that the $10,000 in cash was declared as the group made their way across the Canadian border, but officials seized the cannabis related items. Fortunately, because the items were in such small doses, no one was arrested.
The publication also reported that they tried to request more details from the incident, but Border Patrol spokesperson Mike Niezgoda declined to offer up anything more. He simply stated, “As a matter of policy under the Privacy Act of 1974, we are unable to discuss a traveler’s inspection.”
