According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s findings, Carter drowned in his Lancaster home’s bathtub but ingested alprazolam, a generic of Xanax, and inhaled compressed difluoroethane, as reported by TMZ.  An autopsy report said Carter became immobilized in the bathtub due to the effects of the drugs. He drowned after falling into the bathwater; his death was declared accidental.

His ex-fiance and mother of his child, Melanie Martin, said in a statement to the outlet that the autopsy report doesn’t provide any closure for her, as she questioned why he was wearing clothes at the time of his passing. “The results of the autopsy are not closure for me. It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub, which doesn’t make sense; why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on? I am still in shock and still miss Aaron every day. I don’t understand the chain of events, and this report only has us asking more questions,” she explained.

She said there was a text exchange on Carter’s phone before he died, stating he owed someone $800 for the substances. Martin submitted the message to the police as part of a further investigation.

His mother, Jane, said she believes her son was a victim of foul play after submitting several photos of his death scene in early March.

As previously reported, the singer was found dead last November, and his family previously stated that Carter did not have water in his lungs, believing that he died from a drug overdose. At the scene, multiple cans of Surf Onn compressed air were found in the bathroom and bedroom. Authorities also found several prescription bottles in the home. Carter’s clothing items, including a beanie, pants, and sweatshirt, were found near the bathtub.

Investigators said a nozzle belonging to one of the compressed air cans was found in the front pocket of the sweatshirt.

Fans of the singer also expressed their feelings regarding the autopsy report and others said the signs were obvious pertaining to Carter’s troubling behavior over the years.
