Around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday (August 13), Atlanta Police Department officials were called to the Willowest in Lindbergh apartment complex along Lindbergh Place (nearby the Lindbergh Center MARTA station in Buckhead). According to officials, they received a report of a man who had been shot.
Upon police arrival, they discovered the wounded man and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, succumbing to his injuries. Per the Fulton County Medical Examiner, the Atlanta man was identified as 22-year-old Jaden McKinnon.

According to authorities, McKinnon was walking his dog at his apartment complex when he was shot. Witnesses to the crime claimed that around the same time that police arrived to the area, the man’s dog had gone missing. They also told police that after the shooting, they saw a car speed away from the area.
Officers have since located the vehicle, and when they tried to pull the driver over, they managed to get away, ditching the car, before police officers could catch up to them. Police later said they could “confirm a dog that appeared to belong to the victim is currently missing at this time as the investigation continues.” They added that a motive remained unclear to investigators.

Captain Jeff Childers with the Atlanta Police Department added, “We don’t know, we are looking into all the possibilities of this investigation. That will be pending further investigation. We do know the dog was a Frenchie. We don’t have the color of the dog just yet, but we will have that shortly.”
As police continue their investigation, neighbors are left shocked and some in fear of their own lives and puppies. One man named Jeremy Scott, told WSB-TV, “I’m troubled because I feel like I just moved in there and I’m wondering if I picked the wrong place, and I have a standard Poodle, which is a coveted breed. If this transpired because they were after a dog, that’s troubling for me.”
