OMG! A supermarket in Austria recently shut down after the store manager spotted a deadly spider, whose bites can also allegedly cause permanent erections!

According to reports, since Tuesday (August 8), The Penny shop — which is in Krems an der Donau, about 45 miles west of Vienna, Austria — has been closed to the public over fears of a four-inch black and red spider attacking employees and customers.

It is said that the store manager reportedly spotted the spider in a crate full of bananas inside of the store. Immediately, the employees at the store called emergency services to retrieve the deadly arachnid; at which point the store staffers were warned about the spider’s abilities.

The scary bug, which has been revealed as a highly venomous Brazilian Wandering Spider, has been classified as one of the world’s most venomous spiders, and its bites can be fatal after causing severe cramping, tachycardia (increased heart rate), hypothermia, blurred vision, convulsions and, in some cases, permanent erections.

The last symptom is so wild that the spider’s venom is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments. Apparently, a bite from the spider can give male victims a painful erection for four hours.

As to how the spider got into the store, it is reported that the species has repeatedly been known to enter into Europe by hiding out in boxes of bunched up bananas. According to reports, the spider is still at large in the store. Although the banana crates in the store have been sealed, an exterminator was called in to help wrangle the spider and make sure no other spiders are present.

Being so, the shop will more than likely remain closed until next week. During this time, a spokesman for the Rewe retail group said, “Comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures” are currently underway. However, authorities claim, “Despite an extensive search, no spiders have been found yet.”

More research on the Brazilian Wandering Spider finds that about 4,000 people are bitten by this type of arachnid every year. Of those thousands of bites, sadly 0.5 percent of them will result in the person dying. Because of the spider’s deadly venom, experts have been trying to develop an effective anti-venom, which would reduce the likelihood of death.
