Oop! Popeyes has moved all of their sides to a new section called “Girl Dinner,” and some of social media thinks that the restaurant is taking shots at all the side chicks out there, while others think the brand completely missed the shot with the TikTok trend it was inspired by.

While taking inspiration from a viral TikTok trend — launched by TikToker Olivia Maher, who uploaded a video of her dinner that included a spread of cheese, fruit, bread and pickles, claiming it was her ideal meal — Popeyes took notes and executed with a new section on their online ordering system. They have moved all of their side options to a tab called, “Girl Dinner.”
So while there isn’t a meal option being introduced, the tab simply includes all their usual six side dishes that customers normally pair with their chicken or fish meals. Now available nationwide for pickup and delivery via online ordering, customers can find the following options under the “Girl Dinner” section: Popeyes’ Homestyle Mac & Cheese, Cajun Fries, Mashed Potatoes with Cajun Gravy, Red Beans & Rice, Coleslaw, and A la Carte Biscuits.
Now, pricing for the limited time menu section varies on how may sides a customer orders.

Speaking on the new “Girl Dinner” tab, a representative for Popeyes said, “With the intention to offer a delicious variety of flavors to ‘Girl Dinner’ enthusiasts, Popeyes designed its ‘Girl Dinner’ menu to offer guests options packed with robust Cajun flavors that are made with the same slow, time-honored, homemade traditions of Southern cooking that the brand started in 1972 – many of which defy logic for a fast-food restaurant, but which make Popeyes food taste great.”
While Popeyes got the idea from the famous TikTok trend of a bunch of women showing off their munchies-like meals, some of social media took the name of the new Popeyes tab, and what it’s comprised of, and claimed that the restaurant made a meal for side chicks.

Some users just laughed off the name of the meal. One Twitter user wrote, “cant believe the brand girlies at @Popeyes actually successfully pitched putting ‘girl dinner’ on the mobile menu.”
Another wrote, “The way popeyes added a ‘girl dinner’ section to their menu and it’s all side is so FUNNY.”

Meanwhile one Twitter user criticized, “A man in the popeyes office said ‘monetize girl dinner’ and missed the entire point.”
As a refresher, The New York Times has described a “girl dinner” as an “aesthetically pleasing Lunchable: an artfully arranged pile of snacks that, when consumed in high enough volume, constitutes a meal.”
Another said, “Popeyes too busy trying to be hip calling it the Girl Dinner meal when the “Side Chick Meal” was right there.”
A third wrote, “Popeyes tryna call us a side piece with that “girl dinner” 😩😂.”
