Just weeks after billionaire David Geffen married his 30-year-old husband, model Donovan Michaels, the latter’s ex-girlfriend is speaking out, saying she only knew him to date women. Last month, it was reported that the media mogul, with a $7.7 billion net worth, tied the knot in a very intimate ceremony held in Beverly Hills, California, with only two other couples believed to have been in attendance for the nuptials.
Michaels’ ex, who chose to remain anonymous, has since given an interview, per The New York Post, explaining that she’s not necessarily shocked by his romance with the 80-year-old considering he has always been someone to jump “head-first” into any adventure.
“He would tell me people just assumed that he was into guys from what he posts on Instagram,” she said. “I know that he was getting comments like that from gay men, that he was really attractive and in really good shape.”
According to reports, Michaels began working for Geffen as his personal trainer before photos of him began emerging quarantining with the billionaire in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic on his mega yacht worth an estimated $400 million.
While neither of the pair has confirmed that they’ve tied the knot, Michaels has been spotted wearing a ring on his finger since the March ceremony, which is telling in itself. Part of Geffen’s fortune stems from cofounding DreamWorks studio in 1994 alongside Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Per Knewz, Geffen and Michaels had been contemplating taking their relationship to the next level for some time, an anonymous source told the publication, which would indicate that their decision to tie the knot was not out of the blue.
And considering they have reportedly been together for around three years now, it was only right that they’d make the move to get married if they were both on the same page with the idea. “David has loved Donovan for a while, and they had been talking about taking the next step together,” the insider said.
“David waited a long time to find the right partner, and Donovan is definitely the one.”

Outside of co-founding DreamWorks, Geffen also had a helping hand in co-founding the record label Geffen Records, which went on to gross a whopping $100 million in its first three years of launching.
The label has been the home to some of the biggest artists in Hollywood, including Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Keyshia Cole, Lady Gaga, Aerosmith, Cher, John Lennon, Donna Summer, and Nelly Furtado, just to name a few.
“David and Donovan opted for a simple but special ceremony to mark their union,” the source added. Considering how private the pair is about their relationship, we shouldn’t hold our breath for them to make a public announcement about their marriage, but congratulations to them!
