Talk about a close call. A man named Mauricio Henao from California is thankful to be alive after narrowly avoiding death when he decided to step out of his car to answer a call. Moments later, a huge rock came flying down a nearby mountain, leaving the roof of Mauricio’s Toyota Prius completely crushed.
The scary accident occurred on Tuesday in Malibu when Mauricio had parked his car near his home in the 20000 block of Pacific Coast Highway. His girlfriend had called him and asked whether he could get her bag which she had left inside the property — but little did he know that the request for him to head back inside ultimately saved his life.
Mauricio told KTLA that as he exited the Prius, he heard a loud rumbling noise, and before he knew it, a 4-foot rock had smashed and destroyed the entire hatchback’s roof and damaged the front window. “The rock is the size of the whole hood,” he recalled. The windshields are all broken and the frame of the car is just all twisted.”
While Mauricio gleefully posed for photos in front of his damaged Prius, he stressed to the station that the incident certainly was no laughing matter. The frightening situation has led him to reconsider where he parks his car in the future, but Mauricio has already ruled out any chances of ever parking in that spot again.
What’s more, Mauricio was actually in a rush to get back in the car after grabbing his girlfriend’s bag, but it’s evidently clear that had it not been for the phone call, he wouldn’t have been so lucky . Mauricio went on to compare the incident to something he would’ve expected to happen in a “Final Destination” movie, and has even wondered whether he could be just as lucky if he were to start playing the lottery.
Fortunately, Mauricio was not injured but there was some noticeable damage on nearby cars which came from the falling debris of the rock that came crashing down.
“The rock is the size of the whole hood. The windshields are all broken and the frame of the car is just all twisted,” Mauricio continued. ”I’m kind of glad my car was there. I don’t know if [the rocks] would have gone through the wall of the house and nailed me because my desk is right on the other side of that wall.”
