Issa Rae is opening up about having to address a previous rumor that she was pregnant. Back in March, fans will recall the “Insecure” star trending on Twitter, with many speculating whether she was pregnant based on a photo she had posted on social media at the time — supposedly, Issa left people with the impression that she had a bun in the oven.

The California native later responded, writing, “LET A B**CH EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY,” but it appears the only reason she spoke out about the rumor was that her own family members were led to believe she was expecting. Issa, who graces the first-ever TODAY digital cover, told the publication, “My sister sent me a screenshot of my mom texting her an article like, ‘Did she tell you … Are the rumors true?’ I was like, ‘What?!’”

“[My sister] was like, ‘Not Mom believing in gossip!’ I was like, ‘But she texted you and she didn’t even ask me!’ I’m like, ‘Mom, a pregnancy … you really think that I would hide a grandchild from you? That you’ve been begging for?! So I had to say something, because it was getting out of hand.”

Issa married her longtime beau Louis Diame back in July 2021; the pair have been together for more than a decade, but as the TV star has said, they have not reached the stage of welcoming children just yet. In her response to rumors concerning a pregnancy in March, Issa had also written, “I am not pregnant, f–kyouverymuch.”

And though she and Louis have yet to reach that stage in their relationship, Issa made it very clear that she’s certainly not opposed to motherhood somewhere down the line.

“I’m not sure. Maybe if I have a child, I’ll feel like, ‘Everybody needs to see this thing!’ I don’t know!” she wondered of keeping her future children private.

Though her hit series “Insecure” has since ended on HBO, fans will be happy to know that Issa has sunk her teeth into a new thrilling project on the network’s streaming platform, HBO Max, with the upcoming release of her new show “Rap Sh!t,” which premiered on July 21.

Issa will also be starring in the forthcoming “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” film, which hits theaters next year. Following the news shared in June 2021, she took to her Instagram Story to gush what may be Issa’s most exciting role to date, penning, “The way that I have loved Spider-Man since the third grade. A dream come true.”
