The news was officially confirmed on the actor’s Instagram page where he uploaded a photo of himself wearing the character’s iconic trenchcoat, and sunglasses, with the caption “MORPHEUS.” Fans and friends alike were shocked as the trailer for “The Matrix Resurrections” dropped on the same day.
According to the New York Post, Mateen’s role will replace Laurence Fishburne as the actor confirmed earlier this year that he will not appear in the latest installment. “I am not in the next ‘Matrix’ movie and you’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that.” he said during an interview with Collider.
