R.Kelly’s former tour manager, Demetrius Smith, testified in court Friday and explained about the night the singer found out about then 15-year-old Aaliyah’s alleged pregnancy.

During Friday’s trial, Smith explained his experience working with R.Kelly after he was ordered to testify against him when prosecutors granted him immunity. The former tour manager confessed to paying a welfare office employee to retrieve a fake ID for singer Aaliyah when she was 15 so R.Kelly could marry her and avoid jail time for having sex with a minor.
Smith also felt uncomfortable answering more questions about Aaliyah and said “I feel like I’m on trial for Aaliyah. Sh*t,” but was prompted by Judge Amy Donnelly to answer the questions. He said R.Kelly met her through her uncle Barry Hankerson who also managed the singer at the time. He recalled a time that R.Kelly needed to rush home to Chicago during a tour in 1994 and cried later that night after finding out Aaliyah was pregnant.
