Feds Sue Walmart For Allegedly Fueling Opioid Crisis
It looks like the feds are also coming after Walmart and not just your favorite rapper!
The justice department is suing Walmart for allegedly selling controlled substances through its pharmacies and fueling the opioid crisis, with its unbeatable cheap prices.
According to The Wall Street Journal, The Justice Department claims that Walmart unlawfully and knowingly sold prescriptions for controlled substances that its pharmacists “knew were invalid,” according to acting assistant attorney general, Jeffrey Clark.

“Walmart knew that its distribution centers were using an inadequate system for detecting and reporting suspicious orders,” said Jason Dunn, the U.S. attorney in Colorado. “As a result of this inadequate system, for years Walmart reported virtually no suspicious orders at all. In other words, Walmart’s pharmacies ordered opioids in a way that went essentially unmonitored and unregulated.”
Walmart apparently failed to report suspicious orders of controlled substances to the drug department and filled them out regardless.
Clark added that Walmart “violated important provisions of the Controlled Substances Act that were meant to prevent such controlled substances, including prescription opioids, from being diverted for misuse and abuse.”
However, Walmart claimed in a previous suit that many doctor’s were writing false prescriptions to be filled out and that the justice department failed to act as many of the providers still have licenses.
Walmart has not commented on the recent suit, and the lawsuit does not detail what the penalties could be for the shopping giant.
