Florida Beaches Will Start Reopening THIS EVENING ‘With Restrictions’ Despite Rising Cases Of COVID-19
In more Florida news, beaches in Jacksonville, Florida will be among the first in the United States to reopen to the public. Yup, you read that right.

On Thursday, Republican Mayor Lenny Curry said he is letting the public back onto the beaches at 5 pm Friday evening but for “essential activities only.” Those “essential activities” include walking, biking, hiking, fishing, running, swimming, taking care of pets and surfing, as long as they’re done within social distancing guidelines. However, sunbathing has been banned, The Daily Mail reports.
“This can be the beginning of the pathway back to normal life,” Mayor Lenny Curry said on Thursday. “Please respect and follow these limitations. Stay within the guidelines for your safety as well as for the safety of your neighbors.” Now, the state reported a death toll of 668 on Thursday, a 24-hour increase of 54 deaths since Wednesday evening’s update. As the news site reports, there are now more than 23,300 cases of COVID-19 in Florida.
This move comes shortly after President Trump’s announcement that states must decide themselves when to lift restrictions, and clearly, Florida didn’t waste any time on easing them up.
Starting today, beach hours will be limited to morning and evening hours. They’ll remain closed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
