90-Year-Old Coronavirus Survivor Credits Her Family And GOD For Her Recovery

The family of a strong 90-year-old woman is sharing how their mother survived coronavirus!

Geneva Wood’s had a pretty rough start to 2020. While recovering from a stroke, she fell and broke her hip just two days after she was set to be released from Life Care Center, a nursing home in Washington State. On March 6, her health got worse as she was diagnosed with COVID-19, according to ABC News’ interview with one of her daughters, Cami Neidigh. Woods’ family rushed to visit her in the hospital but following 11 days of treatment, visitors were no longer allowed inside her room at all.

Neidigh said at one point she and her brothers and sister got a call from their mom’s doctors that she may only have 24 hours to live. Despite that, Neidigh still knew how to make her mother feel a little better by whipping up the family’s beloved homemade potato soup. She was given permission to bring it to Wood. “She had gone about a week without eating and once we were able to get her some soup and once she was able to see us through the window, she really rallied. It’s her comfort food,” Neidigh said, adding that “Anytime she gets sick, what she survives on is her potato soup. It has protein and everything she wants and it doesn’t upset her stomach and calms her down,” she added. After waiting and praying, last week, Neidigh and her siblings got the news they had been waiting for:

“They called, said we could come up and give her a hug,” said Neidigh. “She gave me the longest, hardest hug that I’ve ever had in my life,” ABC News quotes. “It was just pure joy,” she said. “She still has a long way to go, but to be able to give her a hug and touch her face, it was amazing.”

The news site notes that Wood will be staying with her family since she can not return to the nursing home. It was also said that Wood has a residual cough due to damage to her lungs, but is otherwise healthy and on the road to recovery, according to Neidigh.

Wood now thanks God and her family for keeping her alive. She does give credit to the soup but notes that it did not cure her.

“I beat the coronavirus,” Wood told Good Morning America. “I have a lot to live for, and God gave me the strength to do it.”
