Some of the people found in the home showed COVID-related symptoms such as loss of taste and smell along with fevers.  Five women and 85 men were found in the home and they explained to police that they didn’t have anything to eat in a while. Houston Police Assistant Fire Chief Daryn Edwards said in a statement that officers responded after a call on Thursday about a potential kidnapping.

There were no children found in the home and the youngest person to be found in the home was in their early 20s.

Asst. Houston Police Chief Patricia Cantu said to ABC 13 that the main focus should be the people being mistreated at the home regardless of their race and immigration status:

“Anytime you see people being mistreated, it doesn’t matter what race, culture, where you come from … there’s no excuse for people to be mistreated like that. Not being fed, not given the basic, common needs, not being allowed to use the bathroom. I didn’t want to focus on immigration. I didn’t want to focus on legality because that was not the main issue.”
