While it may be impolite to tell somehow to grieve, sometimes those who’ve just lost a loved one take things *a little* too far. In Poland, a 76-year-old man named Marian L. has been charged after digging up his mother’s remains and keeping her mummified body on his couch, facing the the tv, for 13 years.

76-Year-Old Man Charged After Digging Up His Mother’s Remains & Placing Her Mummified Body On His Couch In Front Of The TV For 13 Years
The grieving son, whose neighbors never knew his name because he was “a loner,” was busted in February when his estranged brother-in-law paid him a visit at his home in the small town of Radlin, which sits in southwest Poland.
Upon the discovery, the brother-in-law called the paramedics; and when they arrived, they found the mummified corpse lying on the couch, on top of a pile of newspapers from 2009.

Police spokeswoman Małgorzata Koniarska said, “We received a report in connection with the disclosure of the body from a family member of the owner of the apartment. The policemen went to Ul. Rogozina in Radlin. In the part of the house belonging to an elderly man, a mummified corpse was discovered.”
Marcin Felsztyński, who is the head of the district prosecutor’s office, said that the body had been in “perfect condition.” Felsztyński further explained, “Everything indicates that the man must have used some chemicals to mummify the corpse. The smell of mothballs was noticeable.”

Another official from the district prosecutor’s office, Joanna Smorczewska, said, “According to the DNA content, the mummified corpse is that of a woman, Jadwiga L., who died in January 2010, and thus Marian L.’s mother. It was established that the grave of Jadwiga L., where she was buried on January 16, 2010, remains empty. It is likely that the man dug up the mother’s body immediately after its burial and then mummified it and the body has remained in this house since 2010.”
It’s reported that the man’s house sits just 300 meters from the cemetery where his mother was initially buried. Since the discovery of the man’s mummified mother, he is now facing jail time. He was recently charged with desecration of a corpse, and his mother is expected to be laid back to rest, with another burial.
