64 Shot, 13 Fatally, As Weekend Violence Continues In Chicago

Following the bloody weekend over the Fourth of July, law enforcement officials say the weekend violence in Chicago continues, leaving at least 64 shot, 13 fatally, from citywide shootings beginning late Friday afternoon until early Monday morning.

The first victim was 15-year-old Terrance Malden, who was gunned down on Friday around 4:50 p.m. on the South Side’s Jeffery Manor. Between then and Monday morning, five other teenagers were wounded in separate shootings. Other incidents on Friday included the shooting death of Sergio Cervantes in McKinley Park and the non-fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in West Garfield Park.

On Saturday through Monday, a 33-year-old woman was killed in Avalon Park as two 28-year-old women standing with her were left wounded; in Englewood a 33-year-old man was shot to death; in Austin, a 31-year-old man was killed and another man, 35, was wounded; in West Town, a 41-year-old man was killed; in Park Manor, a 41-year-old man was fatally shot; and at least 48 others were shot.
