Can you imagine being so tired of the “adulting” struggle that you decide to just… opt out and restart the game from level twelve? Welp, 37-year-old Brazilian woman Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira didn’t just imagine it; she fully committed to living life as a 12-year-old.

Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira was recently arrested after successfully convincing a whole family that she was a child who survived autistic abuse and needed a good home. For 14 whole months, this grown-up millennial was living rent-free, eating home-cooked meals, and getting tucked into bed.

Amanda, operating under the alias “Gabriele,” pulled out all the stops to secure her childhood fantasy. She wasn’t just changing her voice; she was fully committed to the method-acting lifestyle. According to local police, she regularly used pacifiers, drank from baby bottles, and played with toys to keep the illusion alive. When the family started pointing out that their new “tween” daughter looked like she had lived through the Y2K era, Amanda had a wild excuse ready. She claimed her adult appearance was the tragic result of being forced to take hormones during a childhood filled with abuse and witchcraft rituals.

The unsuspecting couple fell for it even going as far as throwing her a birthday party, sang her lullabies, and were actively planning to formally adopt her. They were even paying out of pocket for the high-end weight-loss drug Mounjaro because Amanda claimed her “childhood trauma” caused medical issues.

The whole house of cards finally collapsed because of that one suspicious relative every family has at the cookout. An aunt looked at “Gabriele,” decided the math wasn’t mathing, and did what any sensible person does: she went to Google. And of course, Lo and behold, a quick search revealed that Amanda was actually a serial toddler-cosplayer who had pulled this exact same scam across at least five other Brazilian states, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Now, when police finally confronted her, she instantly dropped the baby voice and abandoned her little character. During an investigation, her phone records showed she was actively researching “how to act like an autistic child” right next to her browser history for adult entertainment websites.

Currently, Amanda is sitting in a prison cell waiting for a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
