23 Year Old Indicted After Beating Girlfriend’s Toddler To Death, Searched “Why Do Younger Men Want To Hurt Babies”

A 23 year old Middletown, New York man has been indicted for the brutal beating of a helpless toddler after he allegedly became angry that the child’s mother befriended an ex on social media, per Bronx News 12.

In court today, prosecutors revealed that 23-year-old Gionni Sellers had extensive search history on his phone where he went on the Internet to look up the effects of child abuse and what to do when a toddler is injured or not breathing.

Sellers has been accused of killing his girlfriend’s son Xavier Johnson. He was just three years old. The incident occurred on June 2 , 2022 when the little boy was discovered to be unresponsive and not breathing. He was found in his toddler bed that was located in his mom’s living room at the time of death. The child’s mother, Breanna Wilson, was at work and Sellers was babysitting at her apartment.

Authorities note that his small 30-pound body, had horrific injuries. His head, neck and torso were badly beaten, he had brain damage, retinal bleeding, broken bones and blunt force trauma. He was  pronounced dead at the hospital.

“That day at the hospital, it was very clear to everyone involved that Xavier Johnson died an extremely terrible death and a savage death,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said.

This was not the first time that Xavier was in Sellers’ care, he had watched him numerous times before. Following the beating, Sellers reportedly searched, “why do younger men want to hurt babies,” “things you shouldn’t do to a toddler” and “how to deal with a 3-year-old.”

“As alleged, this defendant’s depraved and wicked actions caused the senseless death of a vulnerable child,” Hoovler added.

According to CBS News, Officials reported that Sellers and Xavier’s mother have since gotten back together since the toddler’s death.

According to prosecutors Sellers had an active arrest warrant for domestic violence against a different woman when he allegedly killed Xavier, and during the course of the case he was arrested an additional two times for reportedly attacking the same woman.

If Sellers is convicted he could face 25 years to life in prison. He is due back in court on January 4.
