A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and faces murder and attempted murder charges after a shooting at a Northern California Spirit Halloween store left a pregnant mother dead and six others injured.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Friday (October 30), firefighters responded to a shooting at the Spirit Halloween costume store at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California.
Preliminary information found in the investigation leaves Fairfield Police Department officials to believe the shooting started from a targeted incident involving one suspect inside the store. One person was killed and six others were wounded.
On Saturday (October 31), police identified the decedent as 31-year-old Constance Hages. Family members told police she was a mother of four children and was also pregnant at the time of her death. Three additional victims, 16, 19, 23, and 32, and all male, remain hospitalized.
All are in stable condition, except for the 19-year-old, who remains in critical condition (as of Monday, November 2). Two additional victims, another 19-year-old man and a 43-year-old man, were also shot. However, they have been released from the hospital.
Suspect Arrested In Northern California Spirit Halloween Shooting
On Monday (November 2), Fairfield Police revealed a 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody at a home in Suisun City. Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said the department cannot release the suspect’s name because they are a minor. However, Marshall confirmed that officers knew the suspect’s identity shortly after the shooting. But, police withheld the information to avoid compromising the investigation.
The juvenile suspect faces one count of murder. Furthermore, the District Attorney’s office could pursue an additional murder charge as the victim was pregnant. The suspect also faces six counts of attempted murder for the victims who were wounded. Marshall also revealed the teen suspect was arrested in a previous shooting in 2025. In that incident, the teen was charged and served a few months at a juvenile detention center.
Early Saturday morning, Spirit Halloween issued a statement to ABC7 Bay Area:
