A 12-year-old girl is alleged to have suffocated her 8-year-old cousin to death in her bed after a dispute involving an iPhone.
According to @people, district Attorney Frederick Agee of Humboldt County, Tennessee, has announced that the 12-year-old girl, who is close to turning 13, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Agee stated that authorities have obtained home surveillance footage that reportedly captures the girl using bedding to suffocate her cousin, who was asleep on the top bunk of the bunk bed they were sharing.
Following the death of the 8-year-old victim, the unnamed suspect reportedly cleaned up the victim and moved her body, as stated by Agee. “I consider this to be one of the most disturbing violent acts committed by either an adult or juvenile that my office has prosecuted,” Agee said in a statement.
Prosecutors have requested to charge the 12-year-old as an adult. The mother of the 8-year-old victim, identified as Demeria Hollingsworth, stated to WREG that the girls had a disagreement over an iPhone.
“[Demeria] liked to read books, go swimming, play outside, ride her bike every day, play with the kids in the neighborhood, play with my friends’ kids,” Smith told the outlet. “My baby was sweet.”
