Last night during a press conference, ATLPD revealed the identity of Secoriea Turner, the eight-year-old girl who was shot and killed in her mother’s car. The shooting occurred across the street from the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks died during an arrest. Mayor Keisha Bottoms condemned the shooting and demanded protestors to take action to bring justice for Turner and her family.

She states, “Well now we are demanding action for Secoriea Turner and for all of the other people who were shot in Atlanta last night and over the past few weeks because the reality is this. These aren’t police officers shooting people on the streets of Atlanta. These are members of the community shooting each other.  And in this case, it is the worst possible outcome. There were two other people who were actually shot and killed last night and several others. Enough is enough. Enough is enough.”

As reported by AJC, more than 20 people were shot in Atlanta during the Fourth of July weekend and two other people were killed on Saturday night and Sunday evening. 14 party attendees were also injured during a shooting on Edgewood Ave.

Additionally, Bottoms said “You can’t blame this on a police officer,” she said. “… This is some people carrying some weapons who shot up a car with an eight-year-old baby in the car. For what?” However, protestors have denied any involvement in the shooting and said they were heartbroken by the child’s death.
