Benzino recently opened up about his relationship with daughter Coi Leray and explained how he’s trying to make things right with her.

While appearing on the We In Miami podcast, Benzino was asked how is relationship with his daughter now, which led him to respond by saying: “it’s unfortunate but we don’t communicate too much. The whole thing is still surreal to me like I’m a smart guy, but I necessarily can’t figure this one out. Coi is a young lady she’s independent. A lot of these young generations they don’t want their parents interfering with their lives, but because of that I have to learn to adapt to that and respect it.”

During the conversation Benzino also reflected on how life was before Coi Leray became a success rapper. “I was the hero her whole life right, even if I wasn’t Benzino and she wasn’t Coi there’s still going to be a time at 16-17 that a young girl is going to rebel she gonna what to be out there doing things.”

The clip of Benzino speaking on this podcast was seemingly before his daughter blew up on the internet last week and stated that she doesn’t condone the interviews that her father is currently making headlines for. Which was when he defended R. Kelly messing around underage girls.

After the clip was shared by multiple people on social media, Coi Leray spoke out to update fans about her relationship status with her father.

“I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on. I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please don’t even think of me when you see him,” she said.

Coi added, “Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY . Loyalty, boundaries, respect, teaching, guidance, love, patience, and encouragement MAKES US a FAMILY.”
