The 2022 Met Gala is right around the corner, but if fans were hoping to see Zendaya show up and show out in another stunning ensemble for this year’s occasion, they better think again, as the actress has revealed she will not be in attendance. Zendaya, who has served some fierce looks at the annual fashion event in the past — from a Cinderalla-inspired luminous gown in 2019 to a tropical-printed Dolce & Gabbana dress in 2017 — says she simply couldn’t fit an appearance into her busy work schedule.

“I hate to disappoint my fans here, but I will be working,” she told Extra after being asked whether she would be at the Met Gala, which is being held in New York on May 2. “Your girl’s got to work and make some movies, so I wish everyone the best—I will be playing tennis.” The 25-year-old is currently shooting a movie titled Challengers about the trials and tribulations of competitive tennis.

She added, “I’ll be back, though, eventually.” For last year’s Met Gala, which took place in September — after several setbacks due to the pandemic — Zendaya decided not to attend due to work commitments followed by a world tour promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film, where Zendaya plays Peter Parker’s love interest MJ, has already grossed over $1.8 billion at the box office.

Zendaya’s Upcoming Movie Roles

The Malcolm & Marie star certainly has a lot on her plate. She was recently announced to star in the action-adventure flick Dune: Part Two, which recently went into pre-production, and she’s also believed to be starring in the upcoming drama Megalopolis, alongside a star-studded line-up including Jon Voight, Cate Blanchett, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

After season 2 of Zendaya’s hit series Euphoria ended in February, she spoke out and gushed that there’ll be plenty of drama that awaits her character Rue Bennett in the third installment. Rue — a 17-year-old recovering drug addict — has dealt with severe mental health issues since the start of the show, which the show’s lead star says “can’t be the end of her journey.”

“I think that’s what we need. I think that’s what the world needs,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I know it was painful for me and I think it got to the point of, ‘we can’t leave her here.’ This can’t be the end of her story. There has to be some hope at the end of this. Something beautiful at the end of all this pain.”

Euphoria has taken social media by storm, having since become the most-tweeted show of the decade on Twitter. But given Zendaya’s busy schedule, it doesn’t appear as if a third series will be released until late 2023. The HBO series has turned this actress into one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood, with her net worth having spiked up to $15 million in 2021. Those numbers are sure to increase by the year’s end.
