YouTuber Myka Stauffer & Husband James Slammed For Giving Up Adopted Son With Autism To “New Family”

YouTuber Myka Stauffer warmed the hearts of thousands across the country when she documented her experience of adopting a toddler from China. Stauffer and her husband James welcomed the now-4-year-old little boy, who was later diagnosed with autism, through an adoption from China in October 2017.

While their fans were waiting to watch another Youtube video showing how the family has been doing, the parents revealed something very shocking. In their latest YouTube video titled “An update to our family” to their channel Tuesday, Myka and James revealed that they decided to “rehome” their adopted son, Huxley to a new “mommy.”

Apparently, it was just too much for them to handle. “Once Huxley came home, there was a lot more special needs that we weren’t aware of, and that we were not told,” James said in the video. “For us, it’s been really hard hearing from the medical professionals, a lot of their feedback, and things that have been upsetting,” he continued. “We’ve never wanted to be in this position. And we’ve been trying to get his needs met and help him out as much as possible … we truly love him.” Myka went on to say that she tried her hardest and feels like a “failure mom.”

“There’s not an ounce of our body that doesn’t love Huxley with all of our beings,” Myka tearfully added. “There wasn’t a minute that I didn’t try our hardest and I think what Jim is trying to say is that after multiple assessments, after multiple evaluations, numerous medical professionals have felt that he needed a different fit and that his medical needs, he needed more.”

“Do I feel like a failure as a mom? Like, 500 percent,” Myka said, saying that Huxley was living with a “new mommy” in a “forever home.”

She went on to say,

“The last couple months have been like the hardest thing I could have ever imagined to going to choosing to do because ultimately, after pouring our guts and our heart into this little boy,” she said. “He is thriving, he is happy, he is doing really well, and his new mommy has medical professional training, and it is a very good fit.”

Many fans were ultimately disappointed to hear the news. Some accused them of adopting the child for “likes and views.” One Twitter user said, “She adopted a child for views and then got rid of him and treated him like a brand deal.” Another said, “@MykaStauffer adopted an autistic child from china and after years of having him, she gave him up for adoption because he had ‘bad behavior’ after using him for $$$ on her youtube channel.”

Despite the backlash, there were many people commending the parents for “doing the right thing.”

Myka has asked for privacy during this time and said she wouldn’t be sharing any more information. However, before ending the video, Myka assured everyone, “He is thriving, he is happy, he is doing really well, and his new mommy has medical professional training, and it is a very good fit.”

Myka has since updated her Twitter bio to say she has four children.
