More On Her Her Performance

During RiRi’s performance at Glendale, Ariz.’s State Farm Stadium, she not only revealed she was pregnant with her and partner A$AP Rocky‘s second child, but she also performed some of her mega-hits like “Only Girl (in the World),” “We Found Love,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy,” “Work” and more. Following the big moment, Rihanna also made history in not one but two different categories. She’s the first female billionaire and the first known pregnant person to star in a Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Before hitting the big stage, Rihanna shared why she felt like the time was now to take on the huge gig. “It feels like it could have only been now,” she said earlier this year while speaking at a press conference. “When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, ‘You sure? I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this.'”

“But when you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world. You can do anything, and the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world,” Rihanna said. “So, as scary as that was … there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all, and it’s important for me to do this this year. It’s important for representation. It’s important for my son to see that.”

As previously reported, the “We Found Love” singer was previously asked to perform at the show, but ultimately turned it down to support Colin Kaepernick and NFL players who were protesting police brutality and violence against minorities.

In 2019 an interview, she explained why she felt so strong about passing up on the opportunity at the time. “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people,” she said. “I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

However, although her support for Kaepernick remained strong, Rihanna explained in an interview with British Vogue that she changed her mind because she values Black representation.

“There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes, but it’s powerful to break those doors and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level,” she said.

With 5 noms, Rihanna better come home with something!

In the meantime, she has lots to celebrate. While gearing up the excitement to bring another baby into the world, Rihanna recently celebrated breaking a major Spotify record with absolutely no new album. “Bad Gal billi… wit no new album… lemme talk my shit,” she said in a post on Instagram, adding a wink-with-tongue-out emoji and a Barbados flag in honor of her home country.

Still no word on when she will be dropping an album, but when she eventually does, we’re sure it’s going to be one that fans can’t stop playing.
