Yaqub Talib, Brother Of Ex-NFL Star Aqib Talib, Has Surrendered In Fatal Texas Shooting Of Football Coach

Yesterday, we shared that Yaqub Salik Talib, the brother of former NFL star Aqib Talib, was wanted in the fatal shooting of a youth football coach in Lancaster, Texas. He has now surrendered to local authorities.

Talib was named as the suspect in the fatal shooting on Saturday (August 13). Lancaster Police Department officials said that a disagreement broke out between the coaching staff and an officiating crew member during a youth football game at Lancaster Community Park.

The argument quickly turned physical, and then took a deadly turn as multiple gunshots were heard being fired. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified but is said to be a coach for one of the teams. Video from the shooting has since made its way online, and according to eyewitnesses they say they saw Talib pull out his gun and fire.

Lancaster Police Department officials released a statement and said, “Upon arrival, officers were notified of a disagreement among the coaching staff and the officiating crew. During the disagreement, the coaching staff was involved in a physical altercation and one of the individuals involved in the altercation discharged a firearm striking one adult male. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced dead.”

After the incident, an arrest warrant was put out for Talib. It is still unclear what Lancaster Police Department officials are looking to charge him with.

Talib’s brother was also present at the scene of the shooting. And since, his attorney stated that his client is “devastated” over the terrible loss of life. He stated, “He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.”

Aqib Talib famously used to play for the Denver Broncos, with whom he won a Super Bowl ring. He also played with several other teams over the years like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Monday morning/afternoon (August 15), Talib ended up turning himself in to Dallas County Jail officials in Texas.
