XXXTentacion Murder Trial Reaches Sixth Day of Deliberations Without A Verdict

Jurors finished their sixth day of deliberations Wednesday and have yet to reach a verdict in the murder trial of XXXTentacion. Trayvon Newsome, Dedrick Williams, and Michael Boatwright are the three men who’ve been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting that killed the “Look At Me” rapper on June 18, 2018, in an apparent attempted robbery. Robert Allen, the fourth defendant in the case, had his charge reduced in August 2022 from first-degree to second-degree murder after reaching a plea deal to testify against the suspects.

As deliberations proceeded at Broward Judicial Complex, the jury was keen on reviewing video clips of the accused men flashing $100 bills shortly after the death of XXX, who also had $50,000 stolen from the Louis Vuitton bag he had stashed inside his BMW. Furthermore, the jury, which consists of five women and seven women, also asked whether a series of fingerprints could be reassessed. As part of his plea deal, Allen confessed that all four men targeted XXX shortly after seeing him enter a RIVA Motorsports shop in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

XXX had just cashed out the $50,000 at a local Bank of America before he would stop at the dealership to check out some inventory. Once leaving the store and entering his vehicle, however, the BMW was blocked by an SUV in the parking lot where he was ambushed and killed after being hit by multiple bullets. Allen said during his testimony that the two masked men seen in surveillance footage were Newsome and Boatwright while Williams acted as the getaway driver.

The money, according to Allen, was split up so that the three defendants received $15,000 while he was given the remaining $5,000, the court heard during the month-long trial. Boatwright is accused of shooting XXX, with Newsome grabbing the cash from the BMW — a claim which the defense attorneys called a blatant lie so that Allen would spare himself from receiving a life sentence behind bars.

Earlier this week, when the jury gathered for deliberations, they reportedly asked to go over the text messages sent by Boatwright on the day of the murder, which showed that a total of 17 texts were sent, with one, in particular, mentioning him needing to get a car. “Tell my brother I got the money for the new phone,” a message he sent from his phone an hour after XXX’s death read.

He also sent a news report to someone about XXX being shot and killed about an hour after the fatal shooting.
