Two women claim they were removed from a Spirit Airlines flight for wearing crop tops. Tara Kehidi and her friend, Teresa Araujo, traveled from Los Angeles to New Orleans on Friday, October 4 to celebrate Kehidi’s 30th birthday when the incident allegedly occurred.

The pair boarded the flight wearing sweaters but removed them before takeoff because the air conditioning was not working. When they removed their sweaters, revealing their crop tops, Kehidi says a male flight attendant approached them and told them to “put something on.” According to PEOPLE, Araujo shared footage on her Instagram page, showing her wearing a white crop top, ripped jeans, and a green cardigan placed on her lap as flight attendants approached them. Another passenger, Carla Hager, seated in front of Kehidi and Araujo, said she also wore a crop top under her sweater and was traveling with her child.
To show solidarity, Hager took her sweater off, and in a second video posted by Araujo, flight attendants told her to leave the flight. Araujo claimed that a supervisor later threatened to call the police if they didn’t disembark. The women offered to put their sweaters back on but were allegedly told that it was too late.

They paid $1,000 for a Delta flight to continue their trip. Spirit Airlines stated that its contract of carriage included clothing standards and is investigating the incident as told to KABC-TV.
“Our Contract of Carriage, a document all Guests agree to upon making a reservation with us, includes certain clothing standards for all Guests traveling with us. We are investigating the matter, and we are in contact with the Guests about their experience,”
