An Ohio mom who gave birth to her son while battling the coronavirus and used a ventilator has defeated the virus.
According to Metro UK, Megan Sites,27, took herself to the emergency room in Joint Township on April 1 after experiencing difficulty breathing and being unable to lay down on her back. After a series of tests, it was revealed that her lungs had been infected with the coronavirus and was placed on a ventilator. She was seven months pregnant with her son Jameson at the time.

Almost a week after her diagnosis, Sites said she was feeling better and had the ventilator removed. But hours later, her condition worsened again and doctors told her husband that the ventilator could extend her pregnancy to at least 30 weeks. Shortly after the call, Sites’ lung collapsed and she had to deliver her son the following day.

Doctors performed a cesarean section after placing Sites on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation device to help replace her collapsed lung and transferred her to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. She has no memory of the operation since she was sedated at the time but Jameson was placed at a neonatal intensive care unit.
‘I have a lot of hallucinations from that time…but the actual ECMO treatment, I don’t recall any of that. It’s a miracle that I’m sitting here talking to you now,’
Ten days after delivering her son at 29 weeks and six days, Sites was able to see Jameson, and doctors say he has no signs of the coronavirus. He will be able to come home within four to five weeks.
