26-year-old Gertrude Ngoma has filed a lawsuit against her boyfriend Herbert Salaliki for failing to keep his promise of marriage after eight years of dating and giving birth to his child. During a hearing at the Kabushi Local Court, she explained how she was tired of waiting for Salaliki and questioned his loyalty after she caught him texting another woman. Ngoma stated, “Your honor, he has never been serious that is why I bought him to court because I deserve to know the way forward and my future with him,” Ngoma also lives with her parents while taking care of their child.
During the court hearing, Salaliki said he has intentions of marrying Ngoma but he doesn’t have the money to do so and claimed the mother of his child failed to give him any attention along with a lack of communication. However, he made a payment to Ngoma’s family since it is a tradition in Zambia for the fiancee to pay his future wife’s family as a marriage “security deposit”
