The woman who took the life of a 34-year-old man has finally been sentenced for her senseless crime.
KENS-5 reports that rapper Sasha Skare was sentenced to hard time in the slammer for murdering Martell Derouen in 2021. As previously reported, on Jan. 26, 2021, police found Derouen with a gunshot wound in his San Antonio apartment complex. Derouen was also a rapper who performed under the name of Kardone and was related to Beyonce through her grandmother, according to outlets.
Skare’s murder trial began last week and concluded when she was sentenced Friday afternoon to 55 years in prison for the fatal shooting. According to KSAT, Skare initially declined a plea deal for a 20-year prison sentence a week before the sentencing.

DeRouen met the rapper online after he was looking for women to participate in a music video shoot. Investigators reported that Skare identified herself as DeRouen’s wife during a 911 call after the shooting and claimed she was locked out of his apartment then explained that she was worried about his safety. It was said that she was also seen walking around a luxury apartment complex with a handgun and a cellphone and investigators believe she might have shot him from outside of the apartment. It is unclear when DeRouen and Skare started dating each other. However, his estranged wife Joia DeRouen said her former spouse wanted to help Skare with her music after learning that she too wanted to pursue a career in the industry.
“He released a mixtape called ‘Trunk Bang,’ and he wanted some girls for a video shoot and he honestly just met her online. When you know, the video shoot was over. He said, hey, you know, she’s interested in music. I think I want to help her out.”
During her sentencing, Kami Derouen, Martell’s sister, read her victim impact statement on Friday to Skare. “The pain and agony you brought upon my family is unbearable. Fix your sheets, if you have any, because you’ve made your bed, and now it’s time for you to lay in it.”
