A woman went on TikTok to reveal that internet service provider Spectrum reportedly sent her a router infested with roaches.

TikTok user @resilient.fleur was stunned when the company sent her a router containing a roach colony and recorded a live roach crawling around while the device was still wrapped in plastic. “I went outside to put this thing in a garbage bag to make sure the roaches don’t get out, and more of them had came out of the sealed equipment 😓🤮,” the caption reads.

“Just to be clear, so y’all know I’m not exaggerating—that thing is inside the plastic. Inside the plastic, crawling through a bunch of dead roach bodies. Look at all that that’s roach poop,” she explained. The video went viral when it was posted in February and now has 340,000 views, with other users offering advice on resolving the matter, as reported by the Daily Dot.

“My brother works for spectrum, and he has so many horror stories of going into ppls houses, and their routers/ boxes have a roach infestation,” one user wrote. Another said the warehouses where the routers and electronic devices are located could be a breeding ground for the pests.
There are several reasons why roaches are attracted to electronics. First and foremost, these devices provide a warm and cozy environment ideal for breeding. Roaches prefer to lay their eggs in warm, dark, and moist areas, and electronics meet all these criteria. The heat generated by electronics such as computers, televisions, and other devices is a perfect breeding ground for these pests.

In addition to the warmth, electronics provide roaches with ample food. Roaches feed on various materials, including paper, glue, and plastics. Electronic devices contain all these materials, making them an attractive food source for these pests.
Roaches are also attracted to the electrical currents running through electronic devices. This is because they are highly sensitive to electromagnetic fields, which can act as a beacon for these insects. When roaches are attracted to these fields, they often congregate around electronic devices, leading to infestations.
Fleurs did not post a video update about Spectrum’s response to the situation but replied to a comment last month that the company’s provider was reportedly “unfazed” by the situation.
