According to the Denver Post,  28-year-old Shataean Kelly was arrested by officer Levi Huffine in August 2019 on suspicion of municipal code violations related to a physical altercation. Kelly was placed in a soft restraint hobble and pleaded for her life while laying on her stomach for 21 minutes in the back of the police vehicle. The bodycam footage shows the woman screaming that she couldn’t breathe and scared of the possibility that her neck will break.

Kelly also said “Master I’ll be good” as Huffine continued to ignore her pleas. Huffine said he didn’t believe her due to his 15-year experience with prisoners who often faked their illnesses or pain and didn’t stop his vehicle to place Kelly in a safer position.

In February, Huffine was fired by Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson for his negligence during the arrest.

“It is my expectation that officers always treat individuals with dignity and respect, and you failed to do so on this occasion. You displayed complete disregard for her as a human being and any suffering she may have been experiencing while in your care during transport.”

The former officer appeared for a hearing Wednesday to fight for his job back.
