65-year-old Leah Lokan was on a long-distance cycling trip and made a stop at the town of Ovando to set up a campsite on Monday. The following morning, the 400-pound animal entered the site around 3 am and took food out of Lokan’s tent along with two others. However, the local sheriff’s office received a call concerning a grizzly bear attack around 4:15 am.
Powell County Sheriff Gavin Roselles said the two other campers used bear spray but Lokan was fatally wounded. A statement released on the department’s Facebook said they officially closed the campsites in the town after Tuesday’s attack.
