Woman Who Was In A Coma For 31 Years After Horrific Car Crash Dies; Leaves Husband She’d Only Been Married To For 1 Year Devastated
A woman, identified as Miriam Visintin, from Riese, Veneto, died last Wednesday (May 10) at a San Bassiano hospital — where she had been moved to two months ago after it was discovered that she had a buildup of fluid in her lungs.
Prior to her passing, Visintin was involved in a horrific car crash on Christmas Eve 1991. It is said that she crashed her Fiat Panda in Casoni di Mussolente, Veneto, when she lost control on a frozen surface and hit a pole.

Visintin was left fighting for her life. Upon being rushed to a hospital, doctors revealed that she had suffered an inoperable brain injury as a result of the terrifying crash. After sustaining the serious head wounds, Visintin entered into a coma, where she remained for 31 years.
Visintin’s husband, Angelo Farina said the two had only been married for one year when she had her accident. It was going to be their second Christmas together after marrying in 1990. They originally met a a disco in Mussolente and fell madly in love a few years prior.
Farina said the night of her crash, doctors told him that she would likely not survive that night of. However, he was devoted and said, “When I married her I swore to stand by her through thick and thin.” And for 33 years, Farina stood by his wife’s side, visiting her every day, up until her last breath.
The devastated husband said, “We had only been married a year and a half when tragedy struck. We were so young and had so many projects… fate has been cruel to her. She didn’t deserve all of this. She finally had peace for her injustice… Finally she’s up there in peace and in paradise.”
Farina said, “If I went back, I would do it all over again. It was very difficult. Not an easy situation to accept. I had so much anger inside. Such a beautiful, good and special girl shouldn’t have ended that way.”
Farina said that prior to his wife taking her last breath at a San Bassiano hospital, she was originally at the La Madonnina residential home for life-preserving care.
Then she was later transferred to the Casa Sturm, where she had remained up until she had a pleural effusion (fluid buildup within the tissue layers of the lungs and chest cavity) and was moved to San Bassiano.
