Woman Gives Birth During US Air Force Evacuation Flight From Afghanistan

A pregnant woman who fled from Afghanistan gave birth during an evacuation flight.

The refugee went into labor while the flight was on its way to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Moments after medics arrived at the base, the woman gave birth to a baby girl in the cargo hold. According to the BBC, the woman was experiencing complications on the flight and the pilot had to descend the flight to maintain pressure.The pilot’s quick thinking helped saved the mother’s life during the flight.

“During an evacuation flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East, the mother went into labor and began experiencing complications due to low blood pressure. The aircraft commander made the decision to descend in altitude to increase air pressure in the aircraft, which helped stabilize and save the mother’s life.”

In the Facebook post, the baby girl was listed in stable condition.

“Upon landing, Airmen from the 86th MDG came aboard and delivered the child in the cargo bay of the aircraft. The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition.”
