How much are people willing to pay a baby namer?

Recent NYU grad Taylor A. Humphrey, 33, explained to The New Yorker about the rate she charges depending on her clients’ needs. Her services can range from a consulting phone call to researching names based on genealogical research. However, Humphrey added she’s always had an obsession with baby names and launched “What’s In A Baby’s Name” in 2015. Her prices range from $1,500 to $10,000.

Recently, she helped a couple name their child “Parks”, which was chosen after they explained to her that their first kiss was in a town called Parker. Additionally, Humphrey also assists couples who are “running out of names” while expecting their third or fourth child.

Parents also ask for free baby naming advice on social media.

Humphrey runs a TikTok account with 46,000 followers and offers free advice for parents plus breaking down the meanings of each name.  She also advises her clients if they don’t like the name as a first name, the parents can use it as a middle name.

How does a “baby namer” find names?

Humphrey uses multiple sources to find various names for her clients. She said she uses the Social Security database which reveals names based on popularity and names used by brands. In addition to those sources, Humphrey also uses street names, and film credits, and researches various trends.

Despite her unique profession, people think the idea is a scam after her story was published.

Humphrey also offers services as a doula in New York and California and reiki work for clients who want a more holistic approach to healing.
