Kathleen Casillo,52, was driving with her 29-year-old daughter when they encountered a group of protesters. Castillo told police during her arrest that the protesters surrounded her vehicle and started banging on the car at the intersection of Third Ave and 39th Street. She added that she stepped on the gas to get away from them but she drove into them during the process. The six people who were struck by her vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital and didn’t have any life-threatening injuries.
Casillo remained on the scene and was charged with reckless endangerment. Authorities reported that the protests were in support of detainees who were being held at an ICE detention center in Bergen County, New Jersey.
