A woman has been arrested and charged concerning the death of model Christina Ashten Gourkani. Gourkani died from cardiac last month after a cosmetic procedure.

Vivian Gomez,50, was arrested on April 20 at Fort Lauderdale Airport and charged with involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license. According to PEOPLE, Christina Gourkani allegedly received illegal butt injections from Gomez and died several hours later. However, what was in the injections is unclear, as a toxicology report is still pending.
Dr. Michael K. Obeng explained to the outlet the dangers of receiving illegal butt shots: “Most of these illegal injections are made with silicone, and silicone, or any foreign substance, can migrate within the body, which can lead to infection and hardness over time, deforming parts of the body.”

In some cases, illegal butt injections have resulted in death due to complications such as infection, blood clots, or toxic shock syndrome.
The model’s family was raising money to pay for funeral expenses and said Gourkani had “such a caring and loving free spirit.”
“If you knew Ashten you knew that everyone mattered to her. She was such a caring and loving free spirit that always took the time to bring a smile to anyone’s face she crossed paths with,” the statement said. “She was the kind of person that would kneel down and talk to children at eye level. She searched for the lonely person in the corner and made them feel special as she has such a gift of connecting with people.”
