A Long Island woman and her boyfriend were charged with child abandonment after they left her six-year-year-old daughter on a street in Queens, New York.

According to CBS Local New York, Patricia Chambers,29, and Mark Pamphile,28, stopped at the intersection of 140th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard before 11:30 a.m. Monday. Surveillance footage shows the couple tossing the girl’s clothing from a car window and she exits out of the car. Chambers drives off with her daughter running behind her and picking up the clothes.

Pamphile left several messages on the biological father’s voicemail threatening to pay Chambers or else they were going to leave the girl in the middle of the street. He also said she had no place to sleep and was “crying like a little b***h.” Thankfully, the girl was found by Mishka Peart:

“I saw her with the little garbage bag, and I could clearly see that there were clothing items in there. She just looked at me like, like she needed my help. I said ‘Hey where are you going?’ And she said ‘I don’t know.’ So I said ‘Where are your parents?’ And she said, ‘They left me.’ I said ‘They left you? What does that mean?’”

Park said she was thankful to find the girl because the situation could have been worse:

“Anyone else could have picked her up. She could have been abused. She could have been killed. I can’t imagine someone could do that to a child, let alone their own child.”

A rep from the Administration for Children’s Services said in a statement that the child’s father does not have contact or legal custody.

“Our top priority is protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children in New York City. We are investigating this case with the NYPD,”

Chambers and Pamphile have been charged with child abandonment, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. The child is currently under the care of ACS.
