Miss Misty Dawn Clanton Roberts, 42, was taken into custody on Thursday morning on serious charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, as confirmed by the Louisiana State Police (LSP).

LAccording to Sgt. Ross Brennan, a spokesperson for the state police, the alleged victim, alongside another juvenile, provided statements to the Special Victims Unit, detailing the encounters with Roberts that purportedly occurred while she was still in office. The interviews revealed that sexual intercourse took place, igniting a firestorm of controversy in the small town.
This shocking news follows a whirlwind week for Roberts. On July 26, she announced she would be taking a two-week leave of absence, appointing a mayor pro tem to cover her duties. However, just a day later, she resigned.
In response to her arrest, Adam Johnson, Roberts’ attorney, issued a statement expressing his client’s innocence. ““It is my honor to represent Misty Roberts. My client learned late last night of a warrant, despite not being contacted to be interviewed prior to investigators obtaining the warrant. My client maintains her innocence and, as it stands, she is in fact innocent. She has not been charged with a crime and/or convicted of any crime. And we trust the public will respect her constitutional presumption of innocence which is fundamental to our system of justice. Misty and her family are very grateful for the support they have received from their friends and neighbors and we look forward to putting this unfortunate situation behind them.”
She has since been released on a $70,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing, and many await further developments in this distressing case.
