Socialites, get into this: Earlier this Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law new restrictions on gender-affirming treatments for minors, along with bathroom usage, the way pronouns can be used in school, and drag shows.

In the package of bills, Ron DeSantis signed one that aims to bar trans people from using the public facilities that align with their gender identities while another will restrict “adult” performances in front of minors. He said that measure was intended to limit drag show performances.

In addition to that, the new measure prohibits sexual orientation or gender identity instruction in prekindergarten through eighth grade. While it also restricts reproductive health education in sixth through 12th grade, it will require that it “be age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

Furthermore, the bill states that schools must teach “that sex is determined by biology and reproductive function at birth; that biological males impregnate biological females by fertilizing the female egg with male sperm; that the female then gestates the offspring; and that these reproductive roles are binary, stable, and unchangeable.”

In addition to that, the bill blocks schools from requiring students or employees to even refer to each other with their preferred pronouns. On top of that, it will also prohibit trans school employees from sharing their pronouns with students.

During a bill-signing ceremony in Tampa, DeSantis said, “This will permanently outlaw the mutilation of minors. I mean they’re trying to do sex change operations on minors, giving them puberty blockers and doing things that are irreversible to them,” the Republican governor said.

During a press conference this Wednesday, DeSantis also said the bill “makes sure that Florida students and teachers will never be forced to declare pronouns in school or be forced to use pronouns not based on biological sex.”

“We never did this through all of human history until like, what, two weeks ago?” He said of people using pronouns. “Now this is something, they’re having third graders declare pronouns. We’re not doing the pronoun Olympics in Florida. It’s not happening here.”
